They clarified that although there were circulating reports about an increase in the petroleum levy from July 1st, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance has refuted these reports as unfounded.

It was explained that the news of an increase in the petroleum price from July 1st is baseless. While there is a capacity to impose petroleum levies on petroleum products, no increase is taking place as of July 1st, and no decision has been made.

The spokesperson emphasized that the government does not want to burden the public and that measures are being taken to reduce inflation. They also warned the public not to believe rumors and assured that amendments regarding the petroleum price had been approved with a majority in the National Assembly session on Thursday.

It should be noted that the federal government has announced in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025 to increase the petroleum levy from the current 60 rupees per liter to 80 rupees per liter. However, the government will implement the petroleum price gradually, starting at 20 rupees per liter.
